Nope! You don't need a credit card to create an account. However you will need to enter a credit card when you spin-up your first database instance.

We currently accept credit, debit, prepaid, and gift cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club. We're also working on support for bitcoin.

We'll send you a heads up over email as you approach your plan's limits – if you're consistently skirting the max you may want to upgrade. We will never deny your application access to its data, but there are additional costs associated with overages.

We sure do! We offer a 14 day free trial that switches to a paid plan once complete. Also, you can always download the free and open-source version of Directus from GitHub to try things out.

The power of the Directus CMS is that at its core it's simply a database GUI. Each database instance of Directus allows for the creation of tables. Each table is made up of any number of fields and datatypes that help to define the inputs and interfaces. Items are the records that exist within that table – which hold the actual content. For example, a "blog" table may include "title", "body", and "date_published" fields and contain many items, the "blog posts".

Of course! If you outgrow your plan's limits you can always upgrade. Due to the different limits of plan tiers you'll need to contact us directly if you're looking to downgrade. And no need to jump through hoops to close your account, just go to "Close Account" under your settings. But remember, this will permanently delete all your instances, data, files, etc.

Very true. Since Directus is, and always will be, free and open-source, you can avoid our hosted costs altogether. But, unless you're only running Directus locally you're still going to end up paying roughly the same amount for a web-server. If you're looking for the convenience of instant-setups, auto-updates, and auto-backups – our hosted solution is a great option to have.
